Okay, some of you got that reference right off. That just means you have been on this planet awhile.
And probably had an awesome childhood, btw. But I digress.
For those unfamiliar, back in the 70’s there was this educational PBS kids show called ZOOM!
My title of this blog post was the opening theme song. It was a fun show for us youngins.
And the idea of ZOOMING can be very helpful to all of us adults as well.
I’m talking specifically here about relationships and how a couple should zoom OUT to connect deeper.
In business, you might say we are taking the 40,000 foot view.
Why is this important in a marriage and/or relationship?
Think about it this way.
When you first got together, fell in love, got tattoos of each other’s faces on your butts, and maybe had a kid or two, you had the highest of hopes, right?
You had goals, dreams, and visions of an amazing future together.
Then life got in the way.
Jobs, bills, responsibilities, compromise after compromise, and now maybe you just feel you are surviving day to day.
The love is still there. The desire to please your mate is still there.
So why is it so damn difficult?
Probably because you are mired in “Ground Thinking.”
It’s like the old adage, “You can’t see the forest for the trees.”
You both may have lost sight of the bigger picture.
Tension may be coming up and fights get started because you feel at odds.
Let me ask you a few simple questions…
You want the BEST for your spouse/partner, right?
You believe they want the same for you right?
When was the last time you both sat down and stated that to each other?
If you both ZOOM OUT together and look toward the highest and best good, you both want the SAME thing - a happy healthy family, a strong vibrant passionate marriage, safety and security, respect, etc. etc. and so on.
The conflict is coming from the minutiae of daily life, which is obscuring your 40K foot view of what is truly important.
My goal for this post, is to get you both to realize you want the same thing, at the highest level.
So SHARE that vision with each other.
TELL each other what your highest and best vision for your family is.
I am willing to bet, you will find you want the same thing, way up there in the ZOOM.
